Digital Use Cases in Automated Sensor Production

Digital transformation turns manufacturing into intelligent production. Sensors record all relevant data in order to use them for process optimization. The data help to reduce downtimes, decrease production waste and thus increase productivity. In addition, intelligent production makes it possible to produce economically even in very small lot sizes. However, without appropriate sensors and automation solutions, the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) would not be possible. In this presentation concrete application examples in Balluff’s own sensor production are described from the perspective of a provider and, at the same time, as a user of IIoT solutions.
Helge Klein received his Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from RWTH Aachen University, where he stayed on afterwards until end of 2000 working as a Research Associate in the field of Robotics and Handling Technologies. His particular research focus was on the industrial applications of optical sensor systems in which he was awarded a degree as Doctor of Engineering.
His industrial career started in 2001 in the Automotive Electronics Division of Robert Bosch GmbH, where he was responsible for the planning and ramp-up of a Hybrid ECUs production. In 2007 he joined Balluff GmbH to establish the Corporate Industrial Engineering group. In 2011 he took over responsibility for one of the two Operations groups in Balluff, where he drives all aspects in and around the manufacturing of Balluff Sensors in seven different plants located around the world.
