For most of the modern enterprises globally integrated business is a key driver for success. That applies especially for the automotive industry and its suppliers. KOSTAL Automotive Electrical Systems delivers products for all premium car manufactures around the globe.
While doing this, KOSTAL was always looking to outperform the customer expectations. In a more and more global and digitalized world a strategic approach was needed to sustain this ambition. Since KOSTAL was already active in the fields of software supported production and had already implemented Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) to serve the internal and external quality needs the next steps should leverage these activities. The aim was to establish a SAP ME solution, capable to handle all business areas at KOSTAL and function as one foundation for Industry 4.0 and Enterprise Digitalization.
The first objectives where to establish component and product traceability along with process and test data generation to allow further analysis and optimizations. A toolbox was built together with our partner Systema to keep SAP ME in its standard but apply all the needed business logic through the Systema middleware and its related equipment adapters. Along with that product specific toolbox an organizational toolbox was built which featured knowledge transfer from a central organization towards local implementation projects, all driven by a global responsible team.
These different local implementation projects were a value creator for the KOSTAL Group. We were able to deliver one software solution to serve different worldwide locations thanks to the flexible adaptation of the SAP ME landscape that we have shaped. We were able to move different locations back to standardized business processes as the system reinforced them. We were able to train people around the globe for implementing and enhancing the same technology framework that will enable future value creations through deep data analysis or higher automatization.
